Affinity Designer - How do you even use the pen tool?

I have to say, after using Figma a lot. Affinity Designer feels so backwards when it comes to using the pen tool. I can see that there is no type of cutting tool to delete nodes. I'm really struggling to figure out how to achieve the following -

Perhaps not as intuitive as the Figma way, but here is how I'd go about it…

  1. Draw a shape (not a line) that partially covers the line we want to cut.
  2. Select the new shape and the target.
  3. Use Boolean subtract to do the cutting.
  4. Delete the four nodes that we don't need.
