Windows 10 education, Processor AMD Ryzen 5 1400 Quad-core processor 3.2GHz, 8GB RAM, 64 bit operating system, 3.20 GHz

I have been crashing to desktop when inserting particular images, and I cannot for the life of me understand what is causing the crashes.  I have learned to recognize that the program starts to behave differently when it is going to behave abnormally.

What happens is that I place an image, but instead of arriving with the anchors, they are not present.  The other settings like text wrap are greyed out.  If I click the data merge tool, the anchors appear, but if I try to move the image, I crash to desktop.  I have a document in which this happened page 22. I haven't tried to crash on the document but the behaviour of the image tells me I would do if I tried to move it.

I can't understand why it affects some images and not others.  Most are perfectly fine, although some arrive as thumbnails which can be enlarged, and others arrive at the size they have been saved at as images.  The image in the example is a JPEG at 986x1200 which doesn't seem too large and isn't a strange image format.

I have successfully inserted images, altered their size, moved them, altered the text wrap settings to embed them in the text and had no problems.  Why this should suddenly happen with a perfectly normal JPEG I have no idea.

I thought I was going to be prevented from posting, as the I'm not a robot captcha made me tick it multiple times and then refused to allow me to tick it.  It's quite annoying when you are trying to convey complex information to have that happening at the same time! I thought it might refuse to allow me to post at all but it looks like it will accept my post, just have it moderated.

Hello @Caliandris, and welcome to the forums.

I clicked on your afpub file and discovered that it opens automatically from Firefox into Publisher. (It never did that with Chrome.) The document opened at the end of the item by Fee Berry with an image (of Hilma af Klint?) selected. I was able to move this image without crashing Publisher in both InLine and  Floating mode. Is this what you have been trying to do?

No error occurs with me either. But I have several text frames with overflow. And one of the pictures (page 6 Don Mason) has too low a DPI (68 DPI). All anchors can be moved without any problems.

Please see if there is a crash report.
Copy %appdata%\affinity\publisher\1.0\Crashreports\reports.
Press the Windows key + R. Paste the copied path into the input field.
Hold down Shift and CTRL and confirm with Enter or click OK.

Please paste the .dmp file with the latest date, if available.
Please also insert the log.txt, which you will find in folder 1.0.

I'm not able to reproduce this either, as mentioned above are you able to provide a crash report? It might shed on some light on what's happening

Thanks

I've had some Blue Screen of Death crashes this week from different files, different photos.

On reboot, the files behave.

Windows talks of a Thread error when it works through its Blue Screen of Death.

happened three times on press day this week - we were late to print as a result.

As stated from the developers: A BSOD can't be caused by an (user-mode) application, only a faulty driver, so I would check that first.

I have now discovered what is causing this (for me).  If I have text selected when I click the photograph icon to add a photograph, it allows me to select the picture but it arrives on the page without anchors, and crashes me if I try to move it.  If I try to access text wrap without moving it, the options are all greyed out.  If I ensure I do not have anything else selected when I insert a photograph, it all works as intended.

I now have an entirely different problem with images, which is that the program doesn't seem to remember what I have inserted in the document, particularly if I move the original.  I chose to embed the images, assumed it would embed a copy of the image, did not realise that location of the original was important after it had been put into the document.  I am having to start over with one document for this reason.

My understanding and experience is that your assumption is correct. It should embed a copy of the image file.

I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.
