Current Level means the level you are on at the time, while Level 1 is always the first level.
If you are on Level 1 then the Current Level will also be Level 1, but Level 1 may or may not be the Current Level depending on which level you are on.
Or, to put that another way, Current Level is always the level of the numbering of the line which you have selected, while Level 1 is always the first level of numbering.
In my attached image:

  • “First” is at Level 1 – formatted as “\#.>>”;
  • “Second” and “Third” are at Level 2 but the first digit of the numbering, before the dash, is “\1” (Level 1) – formatted as “\1-\#.>>”;
  • “Fourth” and “Fifth” are at Level 3 but the first digit, before the dash, is “\1” (Level 1” and the second digit, before the comma, is “\2” (Level 2) – formatted as “\1-\2,\#.>>”.

Does this help?

Edit: Added example file.

Let me ask a few more questions.

Can you explain the use of Name and Global in bullets and numbering.

That’s more difficult to answer properly.
It took me a while to understand it to the basic level that I do and I’m not sure if I can explain it well enough.
I’ll give it a go but this will not be the full picture.

First you need to be using Text Styles as otherwise you could get yourself into a tangle.
Global numbering means that the ‘number generator’ used by the numbering for that style can be shared between many lists.
If you also give a Global numbering style a Name you can have multiple ‘number generators’ in the same document – each style using the same Name will use the same ‘number generator’.
You may need to set Restart Numbering to Manual Only to get the generated numbers to properly flow between lists, but I don’t have the time to experiment to see if that’s fully correct.
There will be things that I am forgetting.

It’s better just to experiment with this once you have got it working than to explain it.
I’ve attached an example image and document.
