The file requires a password.

Reading a thread from August 2020 it was said, that the Affinities do not support encryption like 128-Bit AES and above. Currently 40- and 128-Bit RC4 won't open too.

Does this mean encrypted files are not supported anymore?

Dare I say that if someone has encrypted a PDF file they probably don't want someone else to be able to open and edit it! Personally I would be much happier if Serif do not enable any Affinity apps to open encrypted files. (I say this as someone who regularly has to encrypt files to secure them, so that only the intended recipient can read them, and no-one can edit them.) I know it is possible to break encrypted files, but I really don't think this function should be included in easily available/legal software.

This was possible in the past obviously?!? So this is why I am asking. On some occasions I am locking PDF myself to build a hurdle "borrowing" content easily, but I would like to add my protected files where I know the password. ID allows this, asking for the password.

Sorry, we obviously use encryption differently. Rather than editing an encrypted file I go back to the original (unencrypted) file, edit that, then encrypt that to send to the client. I would agree that requiring a password to open/edit encrypted files would be fine, as long as it is secure and allows for files that have different passwords to open and to edit files. I didn't realise that Affinity apps ever had the ability to request passwords for encrypted files.

I am able to Open PDF files that use 40- and 128-bit RC4 encryption.

However, if I remember correctly, Affinity supports password-protected files for Open (and possibly for Add Pages from File), not for Place.

Good luck with the attached one. It is 40-bit RC4 encrypted.
