Florida Posted May 10, 2021 Posted May 10, 2021 AP 1.9.3 Working with a single 12k x 12k pixel image loaded from file after a fresh start. Worked on it for about 10 minutes, mostly using the fill tool. Closed the image without saving. Checked the memory in Activity Viewer. Real Memory Size: 4.8GB, Virtual Memory Size: 18.9GM, Shared Memory: 130MB, Private Memory: 5.34GB. This type of massive memory leak happens all the time, I frequently have to save and restart. Fills to significant parts of a large image often freeze the entire UI; when it returns I sometimes see part of the image is now empty, or the fill did nothing, but undoing and refilling generally works the second time. I think your fill algorithm is both leaky and buggy. iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, 2017) 4.2 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7 16 GB 2400 MHz DDR4 Radeon Pro 580 8 GB Quote Device: Apple M1 Ultra 64GB Ventura 13.0.1 Apple Studio Display - Andrew
Florida Posted May 18, 2021 Author Posted May 18, 2021 The frozen UI issue happens to me every day, it locks up not only AP but the entire machine for a variable number of seconds, often trashing the image or not doing anything at all. Florida Posted May 18, 2021 Author Posted May 18, 2021 Just now I pasted in a small image into a bigger one, the entire Mac froze and then all apps were forced to quit that were running in WindowServer and when I logged in again everything UI based restarted (non UI processes continued). Thankfully AP had at least saved a recovery file so I only lost a few minutes work. There is clearly something wrong with this release that causes the entire Mac to freeze (in this case it froze so long I suppose Big Sur gave up). I would love to see what this code looks like. PaulD Posted May 21, 2021 Posted May 21, 2021 Same problem? Very slow loading app (~2min to load). Sluggish performance throughout usage, and has been getting worse with every IOS 'upgrade?'. Cannot use app in this condition. Quote
Staff Chris B Posted June 3, 2021 Staff Posted June 3, 2021 Is this consistently with the Flood Fill Tool? Sometimes it can take a while for the fill to detect the edges and then actually do the fill - I've tested this on a 12k x 12k pixel image and I am seeing spikes in usage but so far I haven't had a crash on my late 2015 iMac.
