dominath Posted May 7, 2021 Posted May 7, 2021 Hi! I would like to ask how to prevent Affinity Photo from resetting it's toolbars each and every time I'm opening the software? It also resets it's location on my monitors to it's default, but that's what least concerns me. I'm running the latest version on Windows 10 and I'm also logged in to my account. Thanks! Quote
walt.farrell Posted May 7, 2021 Posted May 7, 2021 Welcome to the Serif Affinity forums. Could you give us a screenshot of what it looks like before closing the application, and then when reopening it? As long as you successfully close the application then everything should be in the same place in the window when you reopen it. dominath Posted May 7, 2021 Author Posted May 7, 2021 Since I always have to make a new layout for myself, here is a new one I made in a hurry. Once I close the software, everything goes back to default. Quote
walt.farrell Posted May 7, 2021 Posted May 7, 2021 Thanks, but that only shows the configuration dialog. What does the workspace look like after you Close that dialog? And after you've set it up, and perhaps done some work, do you successfully close the application? The configuration settings aren't saved until you've successfully closed the application. iconoclast 1 Quote -- Walt Designer, Photo, and Publisher V1 and V2 at latest retail and beta releases PC: Desktop: Windows 11 Pro 23H2, 64GB memory, AMD Ryzen 9 5900 12-Core @ 3.00 GHz, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 Laptop: Windows 11 Pro 23H2, 32GB memory, Intel Core i7-10750H @ 2.60GHz, Intel UHD Graphics Comet Lake GT2 and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Laptop GPU. iconoclast Posted May 7, 2021 Posted May 7, 2021 I think you have to close the "Customize Tools" dialogue ("drag your favorite items into the toolbar"), to accomplish your customization, before you restart the program. As far as I understand, that is also what Walt says. walt.farrell 1 Quote
dominath Posted May 7, 2021 Author Posted May 7, 2021 What do you mean by "successfully closing the application"? I'm not ripping out power cables from the wall or terminating the process from the task manager, just simply clicking on the "X" in the upper-right corner. To my understanding this should be the right way to do so... or should I use PowerShell with a couple of commands instead? And I did save a project after rearranging these tools. Since it always resets, I only bother working on those when I'm actually going to draw something. Quote
walt.farrell Posted May 7, 2021 Posted May 7, 2021 First, are you closing the configuration dialog ("Close" button)? And, yes, using the X icon on the application window is an appropriate way to close, and should save your configuration. If you are closing that dialog, and closing the application, and the Tools Panel configuration is not being saved for that application, then something odd is going on with your system. But other than 3rd-party software deleting the configuration files, I have no idea what it might be. Alternatively, there could be a problem with system protection against ransomware. dominath Posted May 8, 2021 Author Posted May 8, 2021 The application was installed under a regular "user" account, but with administrator privileges. It was an Affinity Store buy, not an MS one. BTW I've uninstalled the app with GeekUninstaller and made a fresh install. For now it seems this fixed my main issues. Quote

I clicked on something a while back and my tool bar disappeared! TIA There are entries at the bottom of the "View" menu. To make the toolbar visible "Show Toolbar" must be checked. To configure the toolbar, you can click on "Customize Toolbar" and drag the tools you want into the toolbar. Don't forget to close "Customize Toolbar" after that, because if you don't, your customization will be undone. Quote
