I am thinking of using AffinityDesigner to adjust diagrams created with graphing software (Igor Pro 8, Wavemetrics).
However, I'm having problems importing emf files that contain transparent objects.

For example, when I open the emf file shown in the sample (sample1.emf) or paste it from the graphing software, the transparency objects are not displayed correctly.
The same happens in inkscape, but in powerpoint (office365) the display is normal.
If I remove the transparency, it displays correctly (sample2.emf) .

Is this a known problem with AffinityDesigner and can it be fixed?

Hi @umauma,

Welcome to the forums.

This is not a known issue. It's the first time I've seen it and I'll get it logged.
Is there any specific reason why you use EMF instead of PDF or SVG?

I just installed the demo version, but I only see .png, .jpg and .tiff as saveable formats.

Hi @Gabe,

Thanks for your response.

Igor Pro supports copy-paste and file export in SVG and PDF formats in addition to EMF.
Importing files in SVG and PDF formats was fine.
I take my graphs to AD repeatedly, so copy-pasting instead of file import is more convenient for me.
I tried to copy-paste in SVG and PDF format, but I could not select paste in AD.

Perhaps you have activated the clipboard view. This is called up with the Windows key + V. If it is not activated: Click on Windows Start -> Preferences -> System -> Clipboard -> Clipboard History to On.

If you copy from Igor Pro as svg, an entry should be visible in the clipboard view, which is probably 012345012345678910.
Copied as a PDF, a preview should be available.

I checked it in svg format.
After clearing the clipboard, I copied the graph in svg format and checked the contents by pressing Windows key + V. It shows that the clipboard is empty.
However, even in this state, I was able to successfully paste the graph into PowerPoint, but AD does not allow me to select paste.

Attached is a sample file of igor pro, the demo version seems to be fully functional for 30 days.
Edit -> Export Graphics, select the format for copying and exporting the file.

Thanks,

I have now tested with your file. The copied window content cannot be pasted into Adobe programmes either, no matter which format is selected. So it is not a bug in Designer or in the other Affinity programmes.

What is amazing, of course, is that (also) Microsoft Word and Microsoft Publisher support pasting.

So you will probably not be spared having to go the export route.

To examine the contents of the clipboard in detail, I use the free InsideClipboard (https://www.nirsoft.net/utils/inside_clipboard.html) utility instead of Windows key + v since the utility will provide a lot more information than the simple OS pane.

If I copy a simple graph to the clipboard using SVG format and Igor 8.04 on Windows, InsideClipboard tells me that there are two formats on the clipboard:

When a file output as SVG from igor is read by AD, it can be copy-pasted from AD to illustrator. The contents of the clipboard in this case are as follows.

Maybe there is a problem with reading the MIME type of image/svg+xml in AD

Hope this helps to solve the problem!

thanks

I've tried SVG and PDF, but just as Thomaso found out, you can't paste in other apps. EMF is not right in Photoshop either:

I wonder if it's just a simple case of Igor Pro not using the correct/standard format to export, as I doubt every other app out there is wrong apart from Powerpoint. I've logged this with our developers anyways to see what they say.

@Gabe

Not only PowerPoint, but also Word, Excel and MS Publisher are able to display the files copied to the clipboard (svg, pdf and emf).

But OT: Call me Thomaso again and I'll wash your mouth out with soap. 🤣 😜 ✌️
