Affinity Photo Crashes Everytime I try and Add an image

Recommended Posts

I have been Using Windows Surface Pro Laptop. I can run Photoshop, videogames, and editing programs.

Interested in purchasing Affinity pro, but everytime I try and open an image (any image regardless of file size), my app crashes. Which has pretty much entirely prevented myself from running the app. Weirdly, Affinity designer's trial works perfectly. So not sure why this is happening. Note: This has happened over 10 times. Everytime. I have not been able to load a single image onto Photo.

I have been looking to make the switch from Adobe to Affinity for a while now, all I want to do is test run the trial but these technical issues on Photo have frustrated me quite a bit.

Hi and welcome,

you may want to check under the "Affinity Photo" Preferences "performance settings" if "hardware acceleration (OpenCL)" is enabled or not. If it is enabled then disable it and retry/check if it changes that behavior.

☛ Affinity Designer 1.10.8 ◆ Affinity Photo 1.10.8 ◆ Affinity Publisher 1.10.8 ◆ OSX El Capitan
☛ Affinity V2.3 apps ◆ MacOS Sonoma 14.2 ◆ iPad OS 17.2

This worked perfectly. Thank you for the advice v_kyr! Made me very happy :)
