Issue with mirroring Affinity Photo for iPad to Mac Desktop

Recommended Posts

Since 2018 I have recorded Affinity Photo for iPad tutorials by mirroring my iPad screen to my iMac. I use a third-party software (Reflector 4 by AirSquirrels) to do this and never had a problem until the latest update of Affinity Photo for iPad. I recently tried to mirror Affinity and the screen is distorting the photos and not showing the tool bar or studios. I have contacted the developer of the software, and we both believe this is an issue with Affinity, as none of the other apps I try to mirror have this problem. I am attaching a few files to show the issue. One is a screenshot of how the image is supposed to look, the other is a screenshot of the mirrored image on my mac, and the other is an MP4 demonstrating what happens when I open a file within Affinity while mirroring.

Any advice on how to remedy the issue?

I’ve seen a few similar reports of a difference with 1.9.2 compared to earlier versions. My own experience is limited to 1.9.2 and screen mirroring to a large tv.  No toolbars or studios are shown there either. Reading the Help file, I believe this is by design ie. intended behaviour.
When mirroring, Navigator Studio has a switch to 'Show Tools' but only shows a limited range of tool actions such as control handles. The Navigator Studio also allows adjustment of external display and is not limited to the iPads aspect ratio.

I'd be interested to hear from mods as to what should be displayed. I have not found the current implementation to be very useful. Generally stops working after a few mins but I don’t really have a need for it so haven’t raised any reports.🙂

I just downloaded the trial version to my Mac Mini M1 running Big Sur beta and it worked very well, might buy the full version now.

Bump, can we please get an update to remedy this? I've been searching these forums periodically for months for a solution. Windows user here. Would be nice if I could stream my art but its impossible as is and I love affinity designer too much to jump ship to other programs lmao

I have the same problem.  There was a fix in Affinity 1 but can't remember what I needed to do to get this to work, but it did eventually do so.

Now in Affinity 2 have the same problem

I seem to remember that it was a quick fix but can't see any setting to make the tools visible.
