Brushes in my account fail to stay installed

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I don't know if this is a known issue or not but the brushes that I have bought and installed in Affinity Photo continue to show as uninstalled when I open the program again.  I have to redownload and install them again.

How is this supposed to work?

By "continue to show as uninstalled" do you mean you can't find them in the Brushes panel?

If so, it is probably because they are (what passes for) vector brushes in Affinity. Although they can be installed in AP, they won't work. Affinity vector brushes work in the Designer persona of AD & APub but there is no equivalent persona in AP so no way to access them in that app.

See attached image.

The specific issue is that when I select "always install available content" and wait, the content in the image below downloads and installs appropriately and I can use the brushes without issue in AP.  When I close and reload AP, everything has cleared back to an uninstalled state as you can see in the image below and I have to install everything again.

@Rczech,

They should be installing to the raster_brushes.propcol file, which is located on a Windows machine at C:\Users\yourusernamehere\AppData\Roaming\Affinity\Photo\1.0\user, and should stay there.

I've tried to replicate your issue, by checking/unchecking that box, finding it has no bearing if the files were downloaded.

Did you install Affinity Photo to some other drive? I think Affinity Photo will check the location for the Affinity\Photo\1.0\user folder to install them.

For an explanation of the AppData folders (Local, LocalLow, and Roaming) you can read about them here... https://www.thewindowsclub.com/local-localnow-roaming-folders-windows-10

Where you install the program has no effect on the location of the "user" folder.

Purely a guess, but perhaps you have some 3rd-party application that is doing cleanup on your system, and is removing the files that Photo added (raster_brushes.propcol, etc.) when you close the application.

I have restarted the applications and the computer several times so far, and the brushes appear to be staying installed as of now.  I do not know what I am doing differently, but as far as this thread the issue has been resolved - though I do not know why or how.

I will observe my application use and if it happens again I will try to reverse engineer what is occurring and update this thread with the information, but otherwise this issue is resolved.
