Missing Layer Thumbnail Preview

Recommended Posts

I am seeing an issue with version 1.9 in Affinity Photo where the layer does not show a layer thumbnail preview.

Am I missing a step or setting that allows me to see the thumbnail?

So what steps were taken to produce the two added image layers?

This happens pretty often here, too. It's nothing I could reproduce. It just "happens" here and there and also, if you continue with your work and/or scroll through the list of layers, the thumbnails might re-appear and vanish at random occasions.

Typically, they are sometimes all back when closing and reloading the document or at least when restarting the Affinity app.

As said, I can't reproduce it on purpose. But it happens to all kind of documents, with various sizes and amount of layers.

Unfortunately this is a known and long standing issue with the Affinity range and there are several other threads about it on the forums.
The thing with this bug is that, as of now, there are no known steps that will always trigger it. It is quite random. As such this makes it very hard for a programmer to find the cause and fix.
So I fear it may be with us for some time to come still.😧

Hello Grayfox,

The two image layers were pasted into Affinity Photo via Window's Snipping Tool clipboard.

Interesting enough - I tried the same workflow this morning and it is working properly. I also tried bringing the image into the file with the File>Place command, and all is working as expected. I will keep an eye on the issue and report back if I can identify a "trigger" that is causing this bug.

Thank you Andy and Mark for chiming-in.
