Permission was denied error...

Recommended Posts

I love all my Affinity apps (Photo, Designer, Publisher), but I'm getting increasingly frustrated by an issue that keeps happening and I'm hoping that someone can finally solve it for me. I'm running on a MacBook Pro with lots of memory and storage and using the latest MacOS.

The issue happens often, but not all the time when I'm trying to save or export a file. I get the following error message: "An error occurred while exporting to:...Permission was denied."

In some cases, if I quit and reopen the app, I can save or export without an issue, but not always.

Right now, I'm in the middle of trying to export Designer files to pdfs and can't get past this error. I don't believe it's a font issue because I'm converting everything to curves before I'm trying to export.

Any help or advice would be appreciated. I have attached screen shots along with one of the files that I'm having issues with. TIA

I am not running the latest Mac OS but your document exports fine here on OS 10.14.6. As it is a Permission problem one of the folders may be set to read only or only accessible to the Administrator or some such, can you export to the Desktop, not the "New Hot Stamp Dies" folder on the desktop?

I don't know how to set the various permissions for files in the latest but you may find another section in the System Preferences Security & Privacy Privacy tab.

Mac Pro (Late 2013) Mac OS 12.7.4
Affinity Designer 2.4.1 | Affinity Photo 2.4.1 | Affinity Publisher 2.4.1 | Beta versions as they appear.

I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.

@Old Bruce Ok, I tried starting up in safe mode, but Designer didn't display my document when I did that. I guess Designer needs something running that doesn't run in safe mode. The app launched, and the layers pallet showed my items, but no document was visible.

So, I created a new user account and I was able to export the file successfully. That leads me to think that something I'm running is causing a conflict with Affinity's apps.

I'll continue to work on that, but thanks for leading me in that direction. 🙂

This is what the folders should look like using Get Info

That's how my permissions look. I'm certain my problem is not a permission issue, it seems to be some sort of startup conflict. But, you led me in the correct direction, so thanks much for your help!
