johnptd
The installation of Affinity Photo assigns the .DNG format to it. However when I try to open a .DNG file, Affinity Photo says it is not a supported file type. The file will open in the Windows Photo app. Does Affinity Photo handle this file type? GeoffH
Check your file associations. Also check if the Affinty icon is shown next to the file name in Windows Explorer Here's what it should look like
Joachim_L
Welcome to the Affinity forums @johnptd! A DNG should open in Affinity Photo, so could you a upload a DNG causing problems? I have no problems in Affinity Photo with DNG's from my Samsung Galaxy S10, or DNG's from Adobe DNG Convertor, but DNG's exported from various Topaz programs, which are quite OK with other editors, have decided color issues in Affinity Develop module. (particularly Purple color casts). Interestingly when non Topaz DNG's are opened in Affinity Photo's Develop Persona, the White balance slider when ticked, defaults to around 5490K. Typically when a DNG from a Topaz program (for instance the current Denoise AI) is opened in Develop Persona, and the White Balance slider ticked, it is pinned against the right hand end of the slider, and is designated -1K. From memory this has been a known issue for some time. Quote Intel i7-10700 Gen10 CPU, 32GB RAM, Geforce GTX 1660 OC 6GB Windows 10 Pro 22H2, 1x 1TB M.2 NVMe, 1 x 2TB M.2 NVMe. johnptd
To GeoffH, Yes the Affinity Photo icon is associated with the file in File Explorer. To Joachim_L, Here is a link to the file: https://www.dropbox.com/s/rtogsp0zcdnfmwi/Capture_00001_15-49-26.dng?dl=0 It was originally created in the astronomy capture program SharpCap as a 16-bit .TIFF file. But under that format many image viewing/processing programs do not display the color information. They just show the image as grayscale. Someone discovered if you change the file extension from .TFF to .DNG, RawTherapee will open and display the image in color, which it does. I was wonder if Affinity Photo had the same capability but it will not open it at all. I don't know how large a file can be uploaded here so I put it on my Dropbox folder. JohnD In case the Dropbox access has a problem, here is a link to it on Google Drive: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1jnyoyE-Rlpzqt5ECCC3P_7pggcHsgaYI/view?usp=sharing Edited April 27, 2021 by johnptd

Affinity Photo will not open, because the file header says it is a TIFF, but the file extension is DNG. Not too clever I think. But indeed, as a .tif it opens as greyscale. XnViewMP sees a greyscale, IrfanView sees a greyscale and PS CS6 sees a greyscale. Only RT opens as a colour. When you want to process the file further in Affinity Photo you could save as 16bit TIFF from RT. I did this and the file opens as colour in Affinity Photo.
