Andrew Michell
It is possible to scale a picture by different amounts in the horizontal and vertical directions. How can you tell whether a picture is no longer scaled equally? And then reset it? The same question applies to vector graphics such as logos. A designer might accidentally stretch the company logo and not realise they have done so. How can I check the proportion and/or lock the graphic so that it cannot be stretched? Old Bruce
Check your layers panel and use the little Lock Icon. I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.
Andrew Michell
Thanks Bruce. The trouble is that just locks the graphic or image completely, so it cannot be resized at all. What I really want to do is see how much more an image has been scaled in one direction than another, so that I can check whether it has been distorted and correct it if necessary. When I said "lock it so that it cannot be stretched" I meant so that it's proportions cannot be changed.
h_d
For placed images there's a field in the contextual menu that displays the percentage enlargement/reduction: If the image is distorted, the pop-up next to the image size displays further detail about the x and y scaling: This information is lost (or at least not displayed) if the image layer is rasterised. Not sure what would happen with 'vector logos', but a placed pdf has the same info in the contextual menu until rasterised. (Image from Unsplash.) Andrew Michell
thanks Dabbler. I can do that with some jpgs, but I don't get the pop up with pdfs, nor with some jpgs. Out of interest, since a jpg is already a rasterised image, why does rasterising it remove the pop up?
