Moving to another Mac (M1)

Recommended Posts

Hi, community,
recently I bought an new Mac (it has those new M1 chips) and now i started moving everything to the new machine. How do I do that with affinity designer and affinity photo?

Legally I have the right to do so. That I know and that is not the question. But technically? I just grab the programm from the programm folder and move it into the programms folder of the new machine? Or do I have to download it again to the new machine? I bought both apps some tine ago, so I do not remember very well if I have any licence keys or other stuff that might be needed.

Maybe someone has a link that explains the topic, cause I maybe that is a common question. Nevertheless I could not find it in the FAQ.
Thanks
Raphael

If you purchased originally from the Mac App Store, @raphaelbolius, just sign-in to the MAS using the same credentials you used on your old machine, switch to the Purchased tab, and install from there.

If you purchased from Serif's Affinity Store, just go to https://affinity.store/account/downloads, sign-in, and you will be able to download installer files for the current release, and see the product key and email address you'll need to reinstall.

If you purchased the apps from the Affinity Store and you still have a copy of the downloaded *.dmg file you can copy it from one machine to the other instead of downloading it all over again, but you’ll need to log in to the Affinity Store to retrieve your product key unless you’ve kept a note of it.

As @walt.farrell has indicated, if you have the MAS versions you’ll need to log in to the MAS to install them. MAS purchases are tied to your Apple ID, so there are no product keys for them.
