It’s probably better to download the San Francisco fonts from the official source:

https://developer.apple.com/fonts/

Edit: Sorry, but the download links on the above page point to *.dmg files which are no use to Windows users.

Edit 2: Try here instead: https://github.com/blaisck/sfwin

The dmg file can be unpacked with 7zip.

In the resulting folder, e.g. SF-Font-Pro, another folder SanFranciscoPro is created. Here there is then a San Francisco Pro.pkg, which is also unpacked with 7zip.
In the resulting folder San Francisco Pro is the file Payload~; this file is also unpacked with 7zip and you get the font files in -ttf and .otf format.

Just purchased and installed the whole affinity suite.  all programs showing at least 1 missing font when loading any asset. 'sf pro text'.

where can I acquire this obviously necessary core font?

Welcome to the Serif Affinity forums.

The default assets are probably of use only to those developing programs for iOS, and those developers would usually be running on a Mac or iPad and would have that font available. Or if they were developing programs for iOS, they would already have acquired the font. So, for most of us on Windows, I think it's neither a "necessary" nor a "core" font.

I also think there might be licensing issues if Serif were to try to distribute it.

@walt.farrell You are right! Above is an excerpt from the licence conditions in the font!
