"K only" images vanishes

I'm just wondering if that is because there is no K component. I thought "K only" meant converted to a greyscale but maybe it just picks out the K component.

I suspect that’s the answer, Mick. You probably need to convert it to greyscale explicitly (which makes sense, given that there are several different possible methods each yielding slightly different results).

I reckon your best bet is probably to use a B&W adjustment layer to tweak the look, then group, rasterise, then right click on the canvas and scroll down to create image resource the your little 'K' will reappear on the task bar, click on it and you have a solid black image - you'd obviously have to tweak a bit to your liking

It is a Publisher feature.

Mac Pro (Late 2013) Mac OS 12.7.4
Affinity Designer 2.4.1 | Affinity Photo 2.4.1 | Affinity Publisher 2.4.1 | Beta versions as they appear.

I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.

As the saying goes, that’s better than the alternative!

If I create a Cyan box and export as a JPEG, I can paste that JPEG into a CMYK document and use "K only" succesfully. I agree that there might be better ways of doing this but I still don't know why it doesn't work with the original file I uploaded.

Perhaps give us this new JPEG file so we can compare the two?
