Why Affinity does not show a preview of RAW pictures

A preview of what? In the open dialogue? Right now I am not sure what you mean.

Affinity uses the OS' native file handling to display previews - you need to have the right codecs installed to display specific RAW formats. You can either find the codec(s) you need on-line and install them, or you can use something the FastPictureViewer Codec Pack.  It's not free, but it's very reasonably priced and covers every RAW format I've used.

On Windows 10, just open the "Microsoft Store" an load the "Raw Image Extension".

You do not need paid software for most RAW formats.

As others already pointed out, Affinty uses the OS file dialog, and it is your personal responsibilty to install the required software.

Affinity becomes responsible only after you actually try to open a RAW file.

Bonus Program:

If you want to view HEIF / HEIC images on Windows, you need to install "HEIF Image Extensions".

But please be aware that Windows Explorer will become sluggish as hell when dealing with HEIF files from IOS devices or latest Canon Cameras.

Again, you can only blame Microsoft instead of Affinity for crappy perfromance.
