Gradient does not show up properly when opening on AI documet from illustrator

Recommended Posts

Welcome to the Affinity forums @Paulg123!

Affinity has problems with AI documents when they are not saved with a PDF stream. This is the part the Affinities are able to interpret, as the AI format is a proprietary format. Best for analysis would be if you upload the AI file to this thread.

The only work around at least temp workaround I have printed the document as adobe postscript and finally opened it in photoshop, my end goal was to open it in photoshop to begin with but without losing the vector quality hence affinity.

So the plan was to open in affinity first then export psd file into photoshop but since the gradiant did non look as designed in illustrator when opening it in affinity I had to print it as adobe postscipt first and now open with affinity and export to psd which finally worked ok but I think this should work just with standard ai or pdf files instead of having to print to postscript ( I imagine the issues lies somewhere either between illustrator's saving/export code since it appears okay using postscript or affinity code when opening same files mentioned (strange that it opens postscipt okay but not pdf or ai files from illustrator) starting to think this is an illustrator bug less so affinity?

Any ideas welcome....or solutions
