PinkLouie
Hi, I am new to Affinity, and I've been enjoying it so far, except at the moment when I can't make straight lines with the vector brush tool. I click on a certain point, then shift-click at another point, but the straight line doesn't happen. I can't even just add paint anything by just click on a certain point. It just works if I drag and drop the brush. Shift-clicking does nothing either. It works flawlessly in Affinity Photo (which BTW I find amazing). Am I doing something wrong? Is it a bug? Thank you all.
jmwellborn
Welcome to the Forums @PinkLouie☺️ Nope. The Shift-click thing doesn't work in Designer. I am left-handed but have to use my right hand to draw with my mouse (tremor in left hand). Here is what I was able to achieve in Designer, using the vector brush tool and with a check mark beside "Stabilizer" in the Context Toolbar. The veritical lines were freehand. The horizontal lines were used by following a Guide which I pulled out from the rulers. Hopefully your hand is much steadier than mine. Perhaps this will help? h_d
One way is to draw a straight path with the Pen tool and then apply a brush setting to the stroke: Quote Affinity Photo 2.0.3, Affinity Designer 2.0.3, Affinity Publisher 2.0.3, Mac OSX 13, 2018 MacBook Pro 15" Intel. On this tutorial, (Cute Cactus Tutorial - Affinity Designer - YouTube), at 5:20, they created a straight line using the brush by clicking and shift clicking... So, the affinity developers removed this feature? Edited April 6, 2021 by PinkLouie

So, the affinity developers removed this feature? It's there, albeit slightly awkward. So, the affinity developers removed this feature? In that section of the video they're using Designer's Pixel Persona, which is more akin to Affinity Photo and uses raster brushes, not vector brushes: I haven't watched the whole video so I don't know if they switch between personas at any point. I don't think the developers have removed the feature. It's just that it's available in Pixel Persona but not in Designer Persona. jmwellborn 1 Quote Affinity Photo 2.0.3, Affinity Designer 2.0.3, Affinity Publisher 2.0.3, Mac OSX 13, 2018 MacBook Pro 15" Intel.
