How to select Affinity Photo RAW engine over Apple’s in iPad?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

In the feature list for Affinity Photo it is now listed as new feature to choose between Affinity’s RAW engine vs Apple’s also for the iPad version. I need the Serif RAW engine to open photos from my Olympus TG-6 which is supported by Serif engine but not by Apple. However, when I open the RAW files, they’re still blank and I can’t figure out how to switch the engine. Can anyone help?

In the Photo Persona open the Documents menu. Down near the bottom you will see Assistant. Open that and you will find the raw engine choices. Mine shows bottom left in portrait mode.

So you’ll have to open a jpeg or some other non raw file to get to the raw engine menu in Photo Persona/Assistant.

Hi!

Thanks to both of you, it was easy after you pointed it out... However, there is still some issue with it, because even with the Serif engine selected, any TG-6 photos I try to open are blank as before (and TG-6 is listed in the Serif engine compatibility). Currently I can edit raw in Affinity Photo by converting the ORF to DNG (which is possible even with free Lightroom mobile), and then opening it in Affinity Photo with Apple raw engine, but it’s not an ideal workflow... 🤨

Any update here? I’ve been using Affinity on my iPad for a few years now. No changes on my end to my camera or workflow and all of a sudden I can’t import Raw images. I’ve emailed Serif repeatedly and have yet to receive a solution, just a suggestion for a workaround. Slow tech support response and no confirmation on solving the issue leave me with little hope. I may be making the move away here shortly.

If your images are in Apple Photos in iCloud, try this.

In Apple Photos press EDIT. The image should download to your iPad. Then try again to open using Import From Photos.

Note

If you have previously done some edits in Apple Photos, it should now give you the option to revert the image to RAW or allow you to continue editing using the JPG version of the image.
