jdadwilson
Long-time PS user, new to Affinity Photo. Mostly like what I see so far. BUT, I am having a problem. I don't do a lot of 'graphic' design work but do a lot of cropping and resizing of user supplied images. Nothing elaborate, just very basic. Scenario goes like this... User uploads image to my website. (I then download to my local computer) Image loaded into Affinity Photo Remove un-needed areas around the photo edges via Crop tool. Resize the document/canvas to add border around photo. BUT, if I resize the document the cropped area expands to the new size requested. If I resize the canvas, the original canvas (before crop) is shown but with the desired 'border' around it. Surely I am missing something, but what? TIA for any assistance jdadwilson
John Rostron
Hello @jdadwilson, and welcome to the forums. Cropping is non-destructive. After cropping, apply Layer > Rasterise and Trim. JoeCoffee
Your tutorial regarding cropping shows an easy simple method, however in my trial version on Mac M1 OS 12 Monterey, there is no visible cropping tool. The tutorial shows it clearly in the tool bar, but I've looked thru out the tools and cannot locate it. Is this a glitch in the OS or the product? I would purchase affinity if it preformed on my system as well as it does in your tutorials. Thank You
David in Яuislip
If the Crop tool isn't showing, try View/Customise Tools and drag it over to the left. You may also like to increase the Number of columns to 2 otherwise tools can be hidden Quote Microsoft Windows 11 Home, Intel i7-1360P 2.20 GHz, 32 GB RAM, 1TB SSD, Intel Iris Xe Affinity Photo - 24/05/20, Affinity Publisher - 06/12/20, KTM Superduke - 27/09/

Alternately, even if it isn't showing in the Tools panel you can use the keyboard shortcut to switch to it. By default, it is the C key, but that can be changed in preferences, Quote All 3 1.10.8, & all 3 V2.5.5 Mac apps; 2020 iMac 27"; 3.8GHz i7, Radeon Pro 5700, 32GB RAM; macOS 10.15.7 All 3 V2 apps for iPad; 6th Generation iPad 32 GB; Apple Pencil; iPadOS 15.
