Affinity Photo - Export persona exports blank files

Recommended Posts

Software: Affinity Photo version 1.9.2.1035
OS: Windows 8.1

Hello!

I'm having an issue figuring out how to use the export persona to export several slices at once.

I've created slices that surrounds groups of layers. Each group are made out of:

  1. An image layer that was dragged into Affinity photo.
  2. A text layer.

Using the standard export options (preset: png, file format: png) and checking only the ones I want exported in the Slices tab, I choose Export Slices, the folder I want them to be exported to and press "Export".

The result is empty files exported into the folder. The file types in the resulting folder are specified as "File" and not image files. Seem like they didn't get exported right at all.

However, if I choose to only export one of these slices by pressing the little export icon next to the slice in the Slices tab, it works perfectly fine.
So somehow, there's an issue when trying to export several images at once.

I didn't report this as a bug as I'm unsure if I'm doing something wrong.

Thanks.

Welcome to the forums @SaraIllustrates

At first glance it doesn’t sound like you are doing anything wrong but it’s sometimes difficult to know just from screenshots (thanks for giving them though, not everyone does). It sounds like it may be something to do with the individual slice export options but I can’t tell from here.
Would you be able to upload the AFPHOTO document so we can experiment with it ourselves?

P.S. Are you absolutely sure you are looking for the exports in the folder you are currently exporting to? In other words, did you export them somewhere by mistake first, then change things including the export folder but are still looking for them in the original place rather than the new place? I’ve done this myself.

Hello, and thank you.

You got very valid questions. :)

Yes, I made sure I was checking the same folder that I was exporting to, so it's not that it appears.

I think I might have been able to narrow down what the issue is. I believe it may have to do with importing a PSD file to Affinity, then saving it as an AFPHOTO file. It may have disturbed some functionality in which this problem occurs. I can't replicate the issue when I create a new file directly in Affinity Photo and create the same setup, so that's why I think it may be the PSD imported format. It's a shame if it's a compatibility issue with PSD documents, but I can understand as it's not native to the software. Also I created the PSD file in the painting program called "Krita", not in Photoshop, maybe it adds to the issue.

Anyhow, I was hoping I wouldn't have to create a fresh new file and setup everything once again for it to work, but I think it's the best solution for now. This thread may help with future bug testing perhaps when it comes to PSD documents. I'd encourage anyone with time on their hands to do a bit of testing with regards to that.

I have attached a new document where I could replicate the issue, where the AFPHOTO file previously was an imported PSD file. When you test, try exporting the sliced images all at once with the "export slices" button and see if the images fails to render. Then try the individual export buttons and see if they succeed.

Thanks. :)

"Export persona exports blank files"

Not quite, it's exporting files without an extension
If you rename the Layers then the slices get the png extension and the exported files are fine
So that's the fix, what causes it is entirely beyond me

Ah, I see. Yeah that makes sense.

Yeah, I guess that's what I'll have to do then in the cases where I'll be using PSD imports.

Thanks for the info! :)
