New assets not installed universally

As others have stated above though, and as a software engineer myself, I can't understand the requirement to have these assets in multiple copy form, in order to make them function in the different programs.

FWIW, the staff have mentioned that, at least for the Mac & Windows store purchases, there are potential sandboxing issues that make this problematic.

Jumping on because this seems to be the most relevant post. I have a similar issue with the MiksKS ink stamp pack. It claims to be both vector and raster textures, but no vector textures show up in the Assets tab. Am I missing something obvious here or is there a legitimate issue with the vector portion of the pack?

Hi, @3R3BU5

If I see it correctly, they are all pixel-based brushes.

If you want to use these brushes in Affinity Designer, you have to use the Pixel Persona.

The website of miksks gives the following advice

The collection that is delivered as a "freebie" with the purchase of Affinity Designer does not match anything available on the MiksKS website, as far as I can see. So I would use what it says at the Affinity Store, instead, which is:

Quote
Bonus - Ink Stamp Textures by MiksKS
20 vector and raster ink stamp textures created from real elements that have been scanned and vectorised. Supplied as .afassets and standalone PNGs with a commercial use licence.

Looking at my Affinity Store Account, I see these elements in that pack:

So, the vector form (EPS) is available for download and manual install (though not mentioned in the web page at the Store).

However, the .afassets form contains only the PNG form of the textures:

Edit: I'm not sure why the EPS versions weren't included in the .afassets file. Only someone from Serif would be able to comment on that.

Those EPS files are very complex and have thousands of nodes. Because of the way assets work, they load up in memory, which may slow down lower end machines (or iPads). We decided to supply them as separate EPS files which can be placed on the canvas (rather than being "opened"), which has a much lower memory hit.

Thank you so much! I hadn't thought to check for a part of the download not included in what the Account menu provided. While I think that it definitely should have been mentioned somewhere that more files were available for manual install, I'm glad the fix is that easy.

Hi there, can someone please explain a little better the situation with vector ink stamp textures eps files? How do we access them within designer? Thanks

Welcome to the Serif Affinity forums.

If you're referring to the Ink Stamp Textures by MiksKS, then if you open the My Account dialog you can see if they are installed or not.

image.png.0ed3a7b1a93836b5d456b5947bd423d8.png

From the icon at 1 we can see that they're installed on my system.

From the information at 2 (which we see by expanding the entry) we can see that they are Assets.

So we would find them in the Assets studio panel.

There's a pull-down at 1, where you can choose Ink Stamp Textures by MiksKS, and then the installed assets are visible in the panel.

I understand that part and already found those in assets, but the ink stamp textures add on also includes vector textures and those don't appear in assets, only pngs are in there. There is an eps file download but I don't know where to access that within designer.

Thanks for clarifying the question; sorry for not understanding it oridiginally.

To get the EPS file download, you must download it manually yourself from your account at https://affinity.store/account/downloads which will give you a .zip file. You would unzip that file to a directory of your choice. After that, you would use File > Place or the Place Image Tool, navigate to the directory where you unzipped the eps files, and choose the one you want to put into your document. Or, alternatively, you could use File > Open to open the file directly, or any other way of Opening the file.

Ok thanks, so I guess my question is, is that the only way to open those file? There's no where in the affinity program to access them easily like you would the other ones in assets?

You could, in theory, add them to Assets yourself but I wouldn't recommend that. At least, I wouldn't recommend adding all of them. It's possible that adding a few that you use frequently would work, I suppose.

One of the Serif staff indicated that they're not added automatically to Assets as doing that would cause problems due to their size (number of points or lines, I think).
