Fill in line art?

I use Clip Studio Paint sometimes and to color my line art I put the line art on one layer and set that layer to reference layer the add a layer underneath .

‘now it fills in the color layer with the fill tool but inside the line reference layer thus keeping the line and color layers separate.

is there a way to do this in Affinity Photo on IOS 14+?

Set the blend mode of your B&W line art layer to ‘Multiply’ and add a Pixel layer underneath. When you paint on the Pixel layer the colours will show through the white areas of the reference layer but they’ll be obscured by the black lines.

So you are saying that the line layer has become a reference layer and the color (pixel) layer beneath it will stay within the lines of the line layer when you fill with the fill tool.

So you end up with a  color layer and separate line layer.  Can you then remove the multiply from the line layer so you are left with a line layer and a color layer.

I can not check this right now because I am not on my iPad

No, the colour on the lower layer will only stay within the lines if you make a pixel selection (i.e. a ‘marching ants’ selection) to define the boundary. If you want to flood fill instead of just painting you can do so on a layer above the line art by setting the source to ‘Current Layer & Below’ but you’ll probably have to experiment with the tolerance if there are any lines within the area to be filled.

If you set the layer blend mode back to ‘Normal’ the white areas will stop behaving as though they’re transparent. Use the ‘Erase White Paper’ filter if you need the reference layer to become truly transparent.

For me, once I’m completely happy with my curves, I merge all curves into one, expand stroke and then create a large grey rectangle on another layer below it. I duplicate my line art and then use Divide Boolean function with one of them. There will be two of every shape and so you’ll have to delete half of them. Why you’ll be left is is solid fills in the shape of all the specs between your line art. Select multiple and then group. Color away after that. This method is if you wish to keep the image a vector.

There aren’t any vector shapes in the OP’s scenario. He wants to flood fill areas defined by raster outlines.
