Hooray for the 'Select Same' feature

Recommended Posts

One of the things I complained about in the past was the inability to select things with the same attributes, in particular fill and stroke. So I am offering my thanks and congratulations to Affinity for bringing this much wanted/needed feature.

I sometimes have to work with OpenStreetMap SVG exports. In the maps, usually only one or two buildings are important and the others are noise. This is a small snippet from a much larger map. In the past I had to select each of the unwanted buildings, all shown light brown here, and delete them.

With 'select same', I can change the colour of the one building I want to keep, then select all the other buildings by 'same fill and stroke colour', and delete them. In the snippet there are perhaps 80 buildings, which would take a few minutes individually. In the larger map there are over 1,100 of these which used to take for ever. Now it takes a second or two. This is an enormous time saver for me, probably a couple of hours for just one map. But it also saves me the frustration of having to select these one at a time.

You could also select all of them then shift+click to deselect the ones you want to keep before deleting the others...  no need to recolor the ones you are keeping.

Of course, if you are going to recolor the other ones anyway, it's a toss-up.
