I have a paragraph starting with a exclamation mark as the first character. I would very much like to use THIS and only this exclamation mark as a drop caps character. This doesn't seem to work. The first "real" character of the following word is getting the drop caps treatment as well, regardless of my setting "Characters" to "1" in the Edit Text Style dialog. What can I do to correct this? dc.png.2b9f3f348fc67f2c8cfb8d5f7ab61bba.png

Welcome to the Affinity forums @omu!

This should work, as you unticked the Auto setting. Does it work if you you remove the Style "Rote Betonung"? What OS and what version of APu are you using?

Welcome to the Forums @omu 😊.   One very simple workaround would be to create a separate file using the artistic text tool to make an exclamation mark on a transparent background then export it as a PNG (without background).  Then in your text file create your drop cap using the upper case for letter i.  Then File>Place your saved exclamation point PNG on top of the “i” dropcap and size it to fit over the upper case i.   Worth a try!
