Recently started transferring a document from MS word.

In affinity, there seems to be no easy way to create a hyperlink inside the document that automatically updates the text of the hyperlink, e.g.  "find out more in the boogaloo section (p28)"

In MS word, if the Boogaloo section moved to page 29, then the references can be updated by selecting everything and pressing F9, but in affinity, that link would still say p28, even though the boogaloo section was no longer in that location.

This may be a bug rather than a missing feature, or I might just be an idiot who can't find the proper feature, but since I'm working with documents over 200 pages that update frequently, it would be really helpful if this feature was added / worked, as it would mean I don't have to constantly check and update all of the hyperlinks.

Thanks.

In Publisher this is currently done using additional text frames. The Help begins to explain this method: https://affinity.help/publisher/English.lproj/pages/Advanced/crossreferences.html

For your purpose it is also important to understand that after you create the two new text frames, you would pin one of them inline in your text where the reference needs to go (e.g., to replace the "28" in your "(p. 28)", and you would pin the other one in the text on page 28. If that text moves, the number on the referencing page will update automatically.

Hi Walt,

Thanks for the reply. I was aware of this method from your reply in another 'how to' thread. I am hoping for a feature that makes this process less laborious than it currently is. Probably not the most urgent thing that the team need to address, but from a product testing point of view, users notice and place a lot of emphasis on situations where they move from one piece of software to another and find that a task which used to be easy is now far more difficult, e.g. Why should I use software B when software A did a thing I do a lot, much better. There are of course  plenty of excellent arguments for using affinity publisher, but situations like this tend to have more weight than they should.

You're welcome. And many of us are hoping for something better in this area, I think.
