Outlandish
I have been working on a 312 page book in Affinity Publisher (1.9.1) on my Mac (OS Catalina version 10.15.7). I'm in the final stages of publishing this book so I was messing around with the document settings to change the colour profile (CYMK / Grey etc) and exporting several versions altering the colour profile settings each time to get the shades of grey to look consistent and print correctly. I was also updating the linked .afdesign files several times as I adjusted their document colour settings too. Now the .afpub book file won't open properly. I'm guessing it's corrupt. I can open other .afpub files just fine. When I try to open this file I can see the spread I was last working on but it's blurry like it's in the initial stages of opening but the Affinity Publisher freezes and I can't do anything except watch the rainbow wheel circle continuously. Luckily I managed to get a suitable pdf to send to the printer so there's no urgency to repair this file but my previous version and backup are several weeks old (my fault for not having recent backups). Just wanted to share this in case there is a bug that needs to be fixed. I'd also like to know if it's possible to repair restore the file? Staff Pauls Posted March 29, 2021 Staff Share Posted March 29, 2021 Could you try opening the file in the beta version a few issues have been fixed in that.
Outlandish
Thanks for the suggestion. I just downloaded the Beta version to try this. Unfortunately the problem wasn't solved. The beta version crashed too. I really thought it would work after reading the description of the Beta version. I should have mentioned earlier that one of the linked resources was often marked as "missing" in the resource manager when it wasn't. The linked file was still in the same folder with the same name. I relinked that same file several times. So that is probably the source of this crashing issue.
Outlandish
I have just updated my version of Affinity Publisher (1.9.3) I also tried the Beta version a few weeks ago (1.9.2....something) after seeking help on a different part of these forums... but both Apps still crash when I open my file that has linked Affinity Designer files. I'm using Mac Catalina 10.15.7 The file had been showing signs of struggling prior to becoming completely unopenable. The resource manager would report having lost the link to a file even though the linked file had not been moved or even updated. I would just relink it and it would be fine until the next day when I reopened the file. All of my files are iCloud based. I tried relocating this file and it's links to my local computer to see if that would help but it didn't. I also created a keyboard shortcut to the resource manager so I could open that without using the mouse ( it seems to be moving the mouse after opening that triggers the rainbow circle of death). Will I ever be able to open this file again? It contains 6 months worth of proof reading! and I stupidly don't have a back up or previous version. Happy to share a file with moderator or affinity staff privately to prevent copyright breaches of my author's content.
