Samweow
I have this picture of a ligtning bolt, but I don't want the black background. is there a way I can remove all pixels that are darker than a certain threshold?
EmergingFresh
Bump because I'd like to know. Also one thought in this particular photo what are you hoping to achieve when if there is a way of elimintating specific pixels by value? FWIW, you will get a better result by painstakingly selecting what you want.
firstdefence
Because of the nature of the image I think if you invert Layer > Invert the image and use Filters > Colours > Erase White Paper will be the best option. You will probably have to use a levels or curves adjustment to get the grey background blacker prior to inverting the layer. NotMyFault
Hi,, you can use these steps: copy image rasterize to mask add a curves layer to the mask In curves, select „alpha“ channel and adjust nodes to taste (move left node to the right, move right node to the left) when happy, nest the mask to the background optional: add a fill layer with high contrast color below the background to better see the effect it could be possible in your image the white areas are already transparent Quote Mac mini M1 A2348 | Windows 10 - AMD Ryzen 9 5900x - 32 GB RAM - Nvidia GTX 1080 LG34WK950U-W, calibrated to DCI-P3 with LG Calibration Studio / Spider 5 iPad Air Gen 5 (2022) A2589 Special interest into procedural texture filter, edit alpha channel, RGB/16 and RGB/32 color formats, stacking, finding root causes for misbehaving files, finding creative solutions for unsolvable tasks, finding bugs in Apps. iconoclast
You could even give G'MIC a try. Don't really know how it works on Mac. Until lately I thought that it would only need the 8bf-file (which exists since last year). But that doesn't seem to be enough. The G'MIC-side says, that they haven't built a version for Mac yet, but some users may have compiled one on their own. For me as a Windows-user G'MIC doesn't work in Affinity too, because I foolishly bought my PHOTO-version on the Microsoft Store. This version doesn't find G'MIC (just like the version from the Apple Store would, I think), no matter where you install it. But I still use G'MIC with GIMP, and that works pretty fine. firstdefence
For anyone wanting to install Gimp and G'MIC on Mac, I found that the latest Gimp 2.10.22 will not work with the created OS X G'MIC plugin, Gimp crashes the G'MIC plugin. The good news is Gimp 2.10.14 works fine with this G'MIC OS X release, you can download Gimp 2.10.14 from here: https://download.gimp.org/mirror/pub/gimp/v2.10/macos/ You can download the G'MIC OS X release from here: https://github.com/aferrero2707/gimp-plugins-collection/releases You will also likely need XQuartz: https://www.xquartz.org/ So Install XQuartz Install Gimp Unzip the GMIC-Gimp-2.10-osx.tgz file, you will end up with a folder of the same name. Double click on the folder and copy the contents The GMIC folder and the gmic_gimp_qt file Navigate to the Gimp Application support folder (Note: the plug-ins folder may not exist, I just created it) and paste the folder and file copied in step 4 into the plug-ins folder. /Users/"username"/Library/Application Support/GIMP/2.10/plug-ins That should be it, open gimp and start to play... loukash 1 Quote iMac 27" 2019 Somona 14.3.1, iMac 27" Affinity Designer, Photo & Publisher V1 & V2, Adobe, Inkscape, Vectorstyler, Blender, C4D, Sketchup + more... G'MIC plug-in works just fine with the Windows (Affinity-store) version of Photo, though with usual Affinity-limitations for plug-ins (not for selection, and for pixel layers only). One additional annotation for Windows-users: If G'MIC plug-in doesn't work with Affinity Photo and you don't want to install another program like GIMP or Krita, only to be able to use G'MIC, you can install the standalone-version of G'MIC.
