Hi. I just purchased Affinity Publisher to complete my book cover, as photo doesn't seem to work. I cannot get the text frame to work correctly. I had plenty of practice in Affinity Photo, but it won't work here. I tried watching some of the tutorials. I only need a simple answer. To begin with, I couldn't even get any text to type. Now, it has a black background. I realize this must be a simple fix, but I cannot seem to locate the answer. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I would watch the getting started tutorials here and by others on YouTube.

Publisher needs planning and layout before jumping in. So very different to Photo or Designer. I came from a DTP background (but not Adobe) so I am used to that methodology. I don’t think anyone uses the term DTP in 2021.

What's "2021"?

MacBookAir 15": MacOS Ventura > Affinity v1, v2, v2 beta // MacBookPro 15" mid-2012: MacOS El Capitan > Affinity v1 / MacOS Catalina > Affinity v1, v2, v2 beta // iPad 8th: iPadOS 16 > Affinity v2

View > Studio > Text Frame > General > Fill

Thanks to all who responded. I did discover the Affinity tutorials from their website after the fact. I was just looking on YouTube and wasn't getting anywhere. And yes, I did just jump into it. So, I'll do some training and try again. And I have no clue as to what DTP even is. So I must not be using it? Please take care everyone.

And by the way: My book covers are done. I found it very easy to create them in AFPublisher versus AFPhoto once I saw the correct tutorials that addressed my questions. Thanks again to all.

Good for you!👏😊

What do they use instead? (I didn't know it had changed since 2020)

Acer XC-895 : Core i5-10400 Hexa-core 2.90 GHz :  32GB RAM : Intel UHD Graphics 630 : Windows 10 Home
Affinity Publisher 2 : Affinity Photo 2 : Affinity Designer 2 : (latest release versions) on desktop and iPad

It hasn’t but it seems to have fallen out of favour* apart from those who have been around a block a few times. Digital Publishing seems more popular.

* people are publishing on laptops and tablets now.
