Hey Affinity,

Today I recieved an design from a graphic designer. He send me a pdf, indd and idml file. The pdf file opens ok in Affinity Publisher though the program has to guess where and how to group text in textboxes, and other formatting are lost.

This should be solved opening the idml file, but this results in a complete mess, where graphic elements are out of place and the master page is also wrong.

I am using  Affinity Publisher 1.9.1.979 on windows.

I have tried opening the idml via drag n drop, the open function and doubble clicking the idml file.

I have contacted the designer, who have tried to open it in Indesign. Here it opens correct.

I hope you can help.

Regards

Nick

I can see a few problems - some may be down to that we cant support every Indesign feature but I think the 2 most problematic ones are that maybe the image file names themselves are causing a problem as they dont seem to get detected correctly. I'll log this has an issue as replacing them doesnt quite get the placement right either.

The text is off in my document and I think most of this is down to not having an appropriate hyphenation dictionary at my end - I assume you do and have it configured in Publisher ?

ok, so I can not use an idml to open and share work from Indesign at all? or will you say that it is the specific layout in this idml that causes the problems?

In case of the last being your answer, do you think there would be something in the layout that should be changed so Affinity can convert it correctly?

We're still working to see why Publisher and Indesign are using different metrics to determin the line widths of the text. This difference is causing the text to be truncated but we're not sure exactly what it is but certain fonts seem to suffer from it
