Britta Posted March 22, 2021 Posted March 22, 2021 Hello, since the new Affinity Versions 1.9 I have a 50/50 chance when opening a file ("normal" Affinity Designer or Photo files) in Affinity Designer or Photo that the program is crashing. I did not have this problem before. I attach the latest crash report from Affinity Designer. As I need the programs for my daily business it's really an annoying problem for me at the moment. I am working with a Windows 10 notebook with 8GB Ram, Intel Core i7 CPU and a Radeon graphics card. Has someone an idea which could help? af1e992a-15ef-4880-9b64-737cf3834795.dmp Quote
Staff Sean P Posted March 23, 2021 Staff Posted March 23, 2021 Hi Britta, Interestingly it looks like its crashing in the component that deals with the crash reports (oh the irony!). I'll pass that on to development to see if there is anything going on with that, but it sounds like maybe a firewall or anti-virus software is preventing it from being uploaded? If you go to Preferences > Miscellaneous can you untick 'Help improve the product by automatically uploading crash reports' does that stop the application crashing for you? Britta 1 Quote
Britta Posted March 23, 2021 Author Posted March 23, 2021 (edited) Thanks for your answer. Unfortunately this was not the solution. It just crashed again (after opening 2 or 3 files successfully). I add again the report. Perhaps the other error with the crash handler yesterday was a different thing because I tried to open the dmp files with the crash handler because I thought it could be a tool to look into the error files myself 😏 6f64be98-2acf-4f8f-8798-811881e51d18.dmp Edited March 23, 2021 by Britta Quote
Staff Sean P Posted March 23, 2021 Staff Posted March 23, 2021 Unfortunately that still shows the same crash location for me. Would you be able to go to %appdata%\Affinity\Designer\1.0\ and zip up the contents of that folder and attach it please? Once you've done that could you try going into Edit > Preferences > Performance and then unchecking 'Enable OpenCL compute acceleration' and try giving that a go. It does appear in your crash report that there are some Intel OpenCL DLLs running that have been causing users issues. OpenCL was introduced in 1.9.0 so that could explain why its only since then that you've started seeing issues. We have made some tweaks in the latest beta with OpenCL so it may also be worth giving the beta a go and seeing if OpenCL performs any better in that for you: Quote
Britta Posted March 23, 2021 Author Posted March 23, 2021 (edited) Thank you very much for the support. I add the zip file with the files. Unfortunately there are only a few files now because yesterday I deinstalled Affinity Designer and deleted all the folders in the hope that this helps. I'll next try the things you suppose 🙂 reports.zip Edited March 23, 2021 by Britta Quote
Britta Posted March 23, 2021 Author Posted March 23, 2021 I add here additionally the crash files of Affinity Photo (I use it not as often as Designer but it's the same problem) reports_affinity_photo.zip Quote
Staff Sean P Posted March 23, 2021 Staff Posted March 23, 2021 Thanks for that, after you've run the app up and closed it could you also attach a copy of the log.txt file in the root of %AppData%\Affinity\Designer\1.0\ please? Quote
Staff Sean P Posted March 23, 2021 Staff Posted March 23, 2021 Thanks for that - Did you try disabling the OpenCL in 1.9.1, or trying with OpenCL enabled in 1.9.2? Quote
Britta Posted March 23, 2021 Author Posted March 23, 2021 I am currenty trying with disabled OpenCL. Nothing crashed by now, I opened about 20 files now for testing purposes without problems. I hope very much this is the solution. Thank you very much for your fast help! Sean P 1 Quote
