I have attached a screenshot of what I have now, but basically what I want to do is have the background transparent and make the colorful background image show through on the white paths.

Welcome to the Affinity forums @jackcrane!

What application are you using? Having ADesigner I would expand the strokes, merge the curves and then move the background image into this layer. The attached image was made in APu and the Designer Persona as quick and dirty example. Is this what you want?

Thanks @Joachim_L! That is not quite what I want to do as I dont want the background image to show on the inside of the curves, but rather simply through the back of the strokes. (in my screenshot, I want what is white to become colorful based on the background image)

PS I am using Affinity Designer 1.9.1 on Mac

If I understand your description correctly, I suggest that you start by grouping the strokes. Then go to the Layers panel, drag the group and drop it onto the thumbnail of the background image.

By the way, unless there is more than one ‘World’ I think you need an apostrophe before the ‘S’.

Thank you @Alfred! I tried that but there was no change at all. I am uploading my afdesign file if that helps (the forum is being dumb so I put it on my website). I grouped all the curves and dragged them over the image thumbnail.

Also I think you are correct with the apostrophe but I am in too deep with all the things I have made with the old 'name' so I am just going to stick with it.

Thank you!

The pitfalls of a foreign language. I thought you meant something like this.

How did you do that?

This was basically what I said in my first comment. This was done in a hurry, so not perfect at all. Attached is the AD file.

Edit: Please note, that the text was not merged good enough.

I get the same as in @Joachim_L’s screenshot, minus the (presumably undesirable) white bits in the letters A, T, R, and L.

There is always someone doing better than me. :D
