Martin D.
Hi, I have just got my Affinity licence, trying to leave behind PS for good. While most of the key featured are well covered in Affinity, I miss one I was using in PS quite often. It is burning/dodging over the soft-light-neutral color (50% gray)-filled layer (see the PS attachment). No matter how much I try to "resimulate" this in Affinity (see the Affinity attachment), dodging and burning in such a layer doesn' t work. Please can somebody help? Or is this feature missing in Affinity? Thank you for your reply. Martin D. Edited March 19, 2021 by Martin D.
PaulEC
Add a layer above picture. Fill with mid grey. (If you use "New Fill Layer" rasterise it). Set blend mode to Soft Light. Use Paint Brush to paint black (burn) or white (dodge). Change opacity and/or brush type to get different effects. Ray S.
In addition to what PaulEC already mentioned, set the layer-opacity of the grey-filled-layer to 100% instead of 50% in your example. You must not use the paintbrush with black or white, you can also use the dodge/burn-tool to achieve this. Another method is to not fill the layer (above) at all, set it to soft-light and only use the brush with black and white (with low flow and opacity-settings). Because those color buttons at the bottom of the context menu you're pointing at are not what you think they are. Those are color labels – visual aid within the Layers panel that doesn't affect the layer content whatsoever. affinity.help/photo/English.lproj/pages/Panels/layersPanel.html Quote MacBookAir 15": MacOS Ventura > Affinity v1, v2, v2 beta // MacBookPro 15" mid-2012: MacOS El Capitan > Affinity v1 / MacOS Catalina > Affinity v1, v2, v2 beta // iPad 8th: iPadOS 16 > Affinity v2
