Problem exporting to svg with elements outside canvas

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I was wondering if someone knows a way to export svg with the content that is outside artboard? I have tried everything but only solution is to expand the artboard which isn't something I like to do.When I have a scene with elements outside the canvas like for example a car I would like to have all of the elements exported not only the visible one :)

This is an unusual requirement, because the artboard size is like a document or a sheet of paper, which defines the overall drawing area taken into account. So if I draw outside of a sheet of paper and then only take the paper with me, logically everything that was drawn outside of the paper is not there.

However, in your case then try to export just the whole selected group. Thus tryout to select the whole rectangle group layer (not the artboard layer), so every rectangle is selected, then on the SVG export panel setup/choose the to be exported area as "selection without background" and export. Afterwards inspect the eported SVG in a webbrowser and look if it did what you wanted or not.

exported area as "selection without background"

Other method:

  1. in the Layers panel, move the group outside the Artboard layer – i.e. vertically, not with the move tool
  2. in the Export persona, delete the default artboard slice
  3. create a new slice  that contains the whole area you want to export
  4. export slice as SVG

Another method:

  1. draw a new artboard over Artboard1 of the exact size you want to export
  2. in the Layers panel, move your group into the Artboard2 layer
  3. export Artboard2

In other words: artboards are also layers, among others, and behave as such.

Thanks Loukash it worked, great idea with expanding the slice :D Maybe you know why the imported svg to ai removes blend modes?
