I just photographed some chess sets under glass in a museum. The reflections aren't as bad as i expected but is there any way to reduce them in AP? Also many of the chess pieces were on a shelf with shadows behind each piece. Is there any way to remove the shadows collectively, (not inpainting)? Thanks.

Could you please name the museum you went to so we can all go and take some photographs ourselves so we can see what sort of reflections and shadows you need to remove?

It is always better to eliminate post editing wherever possible and you have set yourself a tedious task but without the image to see the extent of reflection and shadow it is dud question.

Reflections can be reduced pre shot by using a polarising filter, even on Phone cameras and certainly no flash, standing at certain angles can also help remove obtrusive reflections.

This issue is hard to fix in post, but easy to avoid during capturing.

Apps like Google PhotoScan allow you to take photos from 4 different points (but avoiding perspective distortions) and computationally eliminate the reflections.

Without that extra images it is impossible to calculate the missing details of objects behind the reflections. Nevertheless you can try to hide the reflections manually in Photo, but the techniques depend on the actual photo (e.g. colors and lightness of background and reflections).

You may try to use the same trick like PhotoScan with a “real” DSLR Camera, and take the 4 photos using the exact same positions shown by the app.

would be fun to try out.
