Steve Redmond Posted March 16, 2021 Posted March 16, 2021 I own Affinity Designer, Publisher and Photo. I have easily updated my version ever since purchasing. Not with 1.9.. After installing Designer when opened to start it displays only the splash screen and disappears. Then I tried it with Photo. Same Result. I didn't attempt to update Publisher as I rely on it. What gives? I tried removing and re-installing. Same result. HELP! Quote
v_kyr Posted March 16, 2021 Posted March 16, 2021 Are you on a Windows system? If you are able to reach the Preferences settings before crashing, switch there to the Performance settings and disable the hardware acceleration settings. Afterwards restart and retry. If you can't reach the performance preferences settings, since the app crashes before, then alter and disable the hardware acceleration setting manually from outside and start and tryout the app afterwards. - Alternatively you can also use and tryout this tool to disable the settings. Or you can try out one of the latest Beta builds which should have addressed many issues related to these OpenCL issues! If all above mentioned doesn't help, look for possible Affinity crash reports, which should then hopefully tell the cause of all evil ... Steve Redmond Posted March 16, 2021 Author Posted March 16, 2021 It is Windows. There isn't time to change performance settings. Hmmmmm curious why this is suddenly an issue Also wasn't 1.91 supposed to: ?? Fixed crash at start-up due to broken OpenCL drivers ( potential start-up crashes are detected, and hardware acceleration is prevented.) I used 1.91.... \ Quote
v_kyr Posted March 16, 2021 Posted March 16, 2021 The performance hardware acceleration handling has probably changed slightly between v1.9 and v1.9.1 and it might be due to that now. Give that bolded list entry section above a try, in order to see if the whole is possibly too GPU driver related in your case. Or alternatively try out a newer Beta version build. - If nothing of that does apply in your case (if it is not OpenCL and GPU driver related) then check if there are any Affinity crash reports (see above posting where to find these)! Steve Redmond Posted March 16, 2021 Author Posted March 16, 2021 Thanks v_kyr. The betas are working fine. Quote
