Every time I open a file in Photo, they open up on the far right over top of the visible palettes in my workspace. I've tried moving them into the open center, closing them and reopening . . . but that does not help. Is there a way to fix this?

Can you upload a full-size screenshot of what you see when you open a file?

While Affinity has problems in placing and sizing document window AND layering order of windows, thus far it has kept palettes on top (even on top of system dialogs too... ;-) )
Can you post a screen capture?

Hi!

Absolutely, I should have done that last night, but my head was in a bunch of places.

Here's when I double-click the background to select a file to open:

And here is what it looks like when I select a file. Every file just stacks up over there and has to be moved manually into the working area. It's not as big a deal with one photo, but when I open multiples, they're all crammed in over there.

It is menu Window\Float? Try Dock.

"Documents open in new floating window"

It is set to open in a floating window. I do not want them opening docked. They need to open in a window. But it shouldn't open the window over the palettes, should it?

No it should not.

You can try clearing palette/window preferences by pressing ctrl key when starting the app. It may restore some behaviour.

Affinity separated mode is a mess and it habitually loses palettes and tool widgets and has to be restored time to time. Also, opening a document window usually makes it too small and wrong place.

Thanks! I'll try getting used to working with the photos docked. That's a shame, but at least they load in the center. I tend to work with multiple photos at once, and docking them makes it harder for me.
