JustLooking
The symptom is my PC (4-core i7, Windows 7) being pegged at 100%. It is so pegged, a simple mouse move takes many minutes and the only solution is to hit the reset button. It is repeatable, but obviously I would prefer not to corrupt more data due to the hard reset being required... The attached file is an attempt to create a grid (for use on a eink tablet) by duplicating lines. Done that, now need to make the lines thin and grey, so I select them all. Noting that now I can't get to the curve properties, I make them all a group, and then from the line width drop-down change the thickness to 0.2pt. Right about not things may be struggling but you may thing a ctl-alt-del will save matters. It won't, and just to make sure you can try selecting a dashed line. (Edit: seems to be selecting dashed line that does it - changing width slows down but it can recover. The dashed lines is a killer though.) Designer 1.9.1.979 Windows 7 SP... er, fully patched until they stopped Is there a way to achieve what I want? That is, have a grid and be able to change the properties of the lines after placing them all? trigrid.afdesign Edited March 14, 2021 by JustLooking
Staff Sean P Posted March 22, 2021 Staff Share Posted March 22, 2021 Hi JustLooking, There is something very wrong about the lines you've created with some of them having a Height/Width of the following: 654772006865496 px with a start position of -130954401372778 px That said, I've tried on my machine and I'm not getting the slowdown or CPU usage you're getting. However have you tried looking into using the actual Grids functionality of the software? You can create Triangular grids similar to the one you're using with, with the ability to adjust the opacity and colour of the grid lines, along with a series of other options. JustLooking
Thank for looking into this, Sean. Quote There is something very wrong about the lines you've created Nothing to do with me! There are only two lines that are made by me: the first at the top left and bottom left. The others were duplicates created with Ctrl-J. I did wonder how the magic duplicates would cope with the lines needing to be shorter after increasing steadily, but figured the artpad clipping would sort that out (which it does, at least visually). Quote I've tried on my machine and I'm not getting the slowdown or CPU usage I tired with a subsequent grid (this time crosses instead of lines) and that doesn't show the CPU pegging either. Of course, this isn't quite the same but it's a LOT of crosses, most duplicates of duplicates. Perhaps there is something about the clipping and my graphics setup. Quote have you tried looking into using the actual Grids functionality of the software? That was my intention at the start, but it turns out that Designer won't (or can't) export the grid. Perhaps my original note wasn't clear that the grid is for use outside of Designer, on a non-PC tablet (Boox Note Air, as it happens, but the same is done for the ReMarkable 2 and similar). Best way to do this is to draw a line (talking about the diagonal, not vertical) which is the width of the page, so it is going to be somewhere in the middle. Then changing to the Move tool to select the curve and using the Transform panel's y input drag it up or down to be at the extreme corner, very little showing on the page/artboard. Now you start using the Control + J and move the vertical y location in the Transform panel. Leave the x and the w and h alone. Subsequent Control + J will move the copies up (or down) and not change the size. I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.
