Adding live filter to Fill layer doesn't work

Recommended Posts

As per the title, if you create a fill layer (I created one with a gradient in it - not tried yet with others) and then add say a noise live filter to that layer then the filter doesn't affect the gradient at all.

Dragging the filter above the fill layer does then affect it as you'd expect. Not a massive problem but as it's nice to keep things organised in the same way with layers it's a little annoying organising layers one way but then having to arrange others in a different way because things don't work the way you'd expect them to. That is unless of course this is intended behaviour?

Have attached a video to show what I'm referring to.

Thanks,

Mark

A Live Filter or Adjustment that is a child of a Live Filter, Adjustment or Fill can affect only the built-in mask of the parent.

Live Add Noise does not affect alpha, therefore it has no effect on the built-in mask of a Fill object, and so it has no effect at all when nested in a Fill object.

You will get the result you expected from a nested Add Noise by using a vector Rectangle instead of a Fill object.

Add a blank pixel layer instead of a fill layer, and all will work as expected. A "fill layer" apparently behaves a bit differently than what you are expecting. Tried both ways, the blank pixel layer is the better way to go if you are concerned about the order of filters. Otherwise, I would just stick them in a group and be done with it if I needed to use a fill layer.
