When using masks, my paint brush tool won't work to reveal / conceal.  Instead, only the color replacement brush tool will reveal or conceal:

1.  I've uninstalled - reinstalled the software (1.9.1);
2.  "Protect Alpha" is off;
3.  Opacity and Flow set to 100%.

Question:  in 1.9.1, shouldn't I still be able to use the paint brush tool when revealing / concealing on layer masks, or did this change?

What brush are you using? Perhaps you need to open the Brushes panel and select a brush from the Basic category?

I have been bit by the following several times. Do you have a selection made somewhere? Hit the deselect all command and try painting again.

Mac Pro (Late 2013) Mac OS 12.7.6
Affinity Designer 2.6.0 | Affinity Photo 2.6.0 | Affinity Publisher 2.6.0 | Beta versions as they appear.

I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.

Hello.  I appreciate your responses.

1.  My paint brush tool [still] isn't working with masks to conceal / reveal.

a.  "Protect Alpha" is off.
b.  Brush colors set to black and white, to conceal / reveal.
c.  Opacity & Flow both at 100%
d.  Am using a brush from the "basic" category.
e.  Installed beta hasn't helped.
f.  No items are selected.  Have "deselected" just to be sure.

System:  Windows 10.
Note:  This problem only started when I downloaded 1.9.1
