G K
I've been trying to reach the support team, as I bought Affinity Designer after a friend highly recommended it. I installed it successfully on my Mac OS Catalina, and everytime I attempt to create a new document, it freezes and I have to force quit. Could anyone please advise or give me a refund? v_kyr
Hi and welcome! Does it just freeze or crash? - However look if there are probably some crash reports generated by Affinity Designer or the MacOS system, which might tell the cause then. Quote macOS Open the Console app from Applications > Utilities. In the left hand panel click Crash Reports - you will see a list of Crash Reports. Find the relevant crash report - it should display the app's name in the Process Name column. Right click and select Reveal in Finder. Please send us the .crash file. Otherwise you can also tryout the latest Designer Mac Beta and see if it probably fixes your problems ... G K
It freezes, doesn't crash. There are no crash reports regarding it either. I'll try the Beta as well in the meantime. Thank you for your quick response!
G K
Super strange, the BETA just has the Spinning Wheel of Death. It's the same as the regular version.

G K
No problem Leigh, it read "Open GL"
v_kyr
According to the above crash report it looks like to be some race condition caused by OpenGL initialization on startup (via CGLChoosePixelFormat and related functions), which may causes the discrete GPU to turn on. It maybe that the dynamic GPU switch causes a reconfiguration in the mac WindowServer, which then hangs subsequent OpenGL processes here. - It's something seen often in a similar fashion with other software too running under Catalina (like OBS etc.). What you can try is, if turning off "automatic graphics switching" in the "system preferences" would then at least start Designer without hanging at that stage. G K
Hey v_kyr! You were spot on. I did what you instructed and the program stopped freezing. I was able to start a new document, start tracing and save my file. Thank you very much! Could you per chance tell me what capabilities have I lost as a result of turning off the "automatic graphics switching"? v_kyr

Quote Depending on the model of MacBook Pro you have, you may be able to physically choose whether your computer uses the high power discreet graphics card for better performance or the low power integrated graphics chip for better battery life by using an option known as Automatic Graphics Switching. I think they mean ‘discrete’.
