Hi Affinity Community I have been a Graphic Designer for a very long time. Beginning a Rotring pen, a Rabone Chesterman type rule, scalpel and Cow Gum. When the Mac arrived I graduated to; Pagemaker then several iterations of Quark and finally Indesign. This year I have the slow process of learning almost all over again with Affinity Publisher and to speed the process I would like to communicate with other Affinity Publisher users who live in Australia. One of the problems is finding the answer to a particular question on line. Often the words I would use to describe a subject deliver a no result. This isn't because the subject is not covered but rather the way to phrase the question is not evident. If I have a problem with Indesign I can ring a fellow designer as ask, where is or how do I ...? I would like to find other designers in my time zone, the East coast of Australia, who would be interested in sharing information. I realise that from Affinity's point of view they must not share private details and I fully appreciate this necessity for privacy. However if Affinity uploads this question then anybody interested could reply and the conversation could continue within the Affinity Forum which would be just about as good.

I have just added to my question. The attachment shows my question which I consider straightforward, 'convert greyscale to cmyk'. The selection of answers doesn't address the question. I know the answer will be there somewhere, however if I am in the middle of designing a book with illus and I want to complete it as quickly as possible then every time I have a simple question I am diverted down a 'rabbit warren' of information trying to find the quick answer. It all becomes tedious and time consuming.

Hi

First of all I am using windows not mac, and not "down under" You could create a blank document as CMYK in Photo and adding a greyscale image on to the canvas will conveert it to CMYK. You have not clarified how you are going to export the finished article out of photo without it being converted back to greyscale. Most of us design booklet in Publisher and you can seet the export proprties for CMYK for commercial printing. Got to say this is not my area of expertise and you may not be getting many replies with it being in the resources forum, may be better in https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/forum/50-affinity-support-questions/

Also ssearching forums using just "greyscale cmyk" may get you some insight. Hope this helps in someway and someone more knowledgible will pik this up

Hi Alan Thanks for your reply. As you can read I am new to Affinity. I am a book designer/typographer and design using almost every type of image, photographs, slides, original illustrations, jpeg, tiff etc and I need to be able to manipulate them quickly. Finding how to do that in Affinity Publisher, Designer or Photo is a slow learning process.

My comment is really about finding the appropriate information quickly rather than just converting a greyscale image to cmyk.

Thanks for your comments

I did my training in the 1960's covering every aspect of a jobbing printer. compositing, camera work, machining, designing, bookbinding and the rest. I left printing in 73 and apart form the usual dabble with word and ms publisher did not do anything until I retired in 2010.

I have not worked on any software publishing packages until about 6 years ago when I purchased the Serif software before the Affinity range, but I have worked on software systems, some of which have worked nationally for medical services, so I know there is no shortcut to learning a new system. However you will find this forum is read by some very experienced people in design and answers are usually given pretty quickly, but many will skip over the resources section of the forum so using the support sections will be more effective and making the subject line relevant to the question.
