Affinity Designer and Photo Pixel Tool - brush works if I resize

Recommended Posts

I am using  brushes in the  Eleni Debo set.     Actually following her Affinity video.    If I use the brushes with the pixel tool,  specifically the Soft Noise Texture 2,   it only works if I resize the brush.   Then the pattern is not correct,  it is very sparse dots.   Is there a difference on how brushes behave depending on platform?    I am on Windows 10,  she was using an Ipad,   so is there a difference?      I am using Wacom Cintiq and Intous Pro.

The video is an Affinity produced  video and pretty good.   You should check it out.

The question is:  Are brushes platform specific?    Or is it possible that brushes created on one platform, like an Ipad,  are not 100% compatible with desktop versions?

From what I see in the video, and from the brushes it would appear that this is the case.

Hi @airborne18,

Welcome to the Affinity Forums :)

Our sincerest apologies for the delayed response here, we're currently working through a backlog of tickets, so many thanks for your patience and understanding.

I can confirm this kit is compatible with both desktop and iPad - if you're still experiencing this issue could you please provide a screen recording or screenshots showing the brush you're using and the results on your PC?

Many thanks in advance!

Please note -

I am currently out of the office for a short while whilst recovering from surgery (nothing serious!), therefore will not be available on the Forums during this time.

Should you require a response from the team in a thread I have previously replied in - please Create a New Thread and our team will be sure to reply as soon as possible.

Many thanks!

Dan,

The issue seems to be that Eleni's brushes were created using the Ipad version.  I am on the desktop windows version and it appears that the brush nozzle bitmap or texture.. not sure what it is called does not scale the same when it comes into windows.  I have a bunch of brushes I bought from several of the artists, actually all of them, and I know most probably create them with a Mac,  and no issues.     It seems to be that they were created on ipad.

Specifically 3 brushes really have issues.   Soft Noise Texture 1, Soft Noise Texture 2, Soft Noise Texture 3.   I cannot use number 2 or 3 with the Pixel tool at all.  Which is something she recommends in her documentation.   There are some quirks with the some of the other brushes as well, and if I play with the scaling and make the size much larger it starts to work.

I will make a video of it.

   Thanks

I'm not sure which of the Soft Noise Texture brushes she used in that video, but whichever she used at about 20 minutes into it I noticed that she increased the brush size to 855px. So, perhaps, increasing the size is needed if using the Pixel Tool rather than the Paint Brush Tool.
