Publisher keeps crashing when removing/moving/adding pages

Recommended Posts

I have a 17 page document that need one of the pages to be moved.

I have successfully added my last 2 pages into the document but one of them needs to be moved up to be the second page. This is where the problem occurs.

When I try to move it to any new page the program crashes. I don't know what to really do. I have tried removing that page (page 15 which is supposed to be as page 2) but the program crashes. And I have tried to move it up to be as the 2nd page but it crashes.

Hi Petri,

Do your pages have linked text frames? Moving pages with linked text frames can create problems with the linkage order but doesn't seem to create problems in actually moving a page.  I've just had a 93 page document open [it has no linked text frames as it's a recipe book]  and I can move any page anywhere (though it does mean that the index needs updating after a page move)

No, There's no linked text frames :( I don't know how to do them yet (I got the program this week so I've been trying it out now)

First go into Edit > Preferences > Performance and untick Hardware Acceleration (if enabled) at the bottom of the screen. Restart Publisher and try again

Hardware Acceleration has been causing a few weird problems so we just need to eliminate that first.

If that does not cure your problem, please upload the document to the forum for further investigation.

Hi Petri,

If you open the Help file and type link text frames in the search box [top left] you will find this

Open the Linking text frames by clicking on the heading to get help on how to link text frames

Couldn't get it to work either :( I'll attach the file.

So I need to move the blank page on page 15 to be the 2nd page, which it does not allow.

Also: no info in the text is confidential, it's a school project! So no worries abotu it.

Hi Petri,

I loaded your publication and tried moving page 15 to page 2 -CRASH!

Re-opened it then found that you'd applied masters   2014874919_masterpages1.JPG.7a208ed80d03e714aa7c1be6ac74d92a.JPG            to pages.

I then selected all the pages, right-clicked on the selection and chose to apply Master A only to all pages 1795448556_masterpages2.JPG.6e23f7b4f3d3cd53be3a3cb32580f983.JPG

by Replace Existing to all pages.  With this done I tried moving page 15 to page 2 - SUCCESS!  I've attached modified file here for you to check out. petri dokumentmod.afpub

Good luck with your project!!

Thank you so much for the helpful and detailed explanation!

I'm still very new to the program so I'm learning it. Now I know what to check in the future!

Thank you for this reply - I had the same problem on a Mac and re-applying the Masterpage also fixed the issue there.
