Todd S. Posted March 6, 2021 Posted March 6, 2021 Hi, In photoshop I could use the various selection tools to copy or delete parts of a picture. Whatever was selected. I have tried this in affinity photo, and when I select an area I want deleted so I can have a transparent area in the photo, it deletes the entire photo. When I want to copy an area on a photo, because I want to duplicate that one area and move it to another spot on the photo, I am unable to. I am not sure what I am doing wrong. Thanks Todd Quote
walt.farrell Posted March 6, 2021 Posted March 6, 2021 If you Open an image, you have a (Pixel) layer which will work as you describe. If you Place an image onto another one, or Paste an image, or use drag/drop, or New from Clipboard, you will get a (Image) layer. An (Image) layer is a container in which the pixels are not available individually to work on (much like a vector object). In that case, if you want to work on the pixels you need to Rasterize the (Image) layer, converting it into a (Pixel) layer. You can Rasterize via the Layer menu (Layer > Rasterize), by right-clicking on the layer in the Layers panel and choosing Rasterize, or by right-clicking on the layer on the canvas (use the Move Tool for this) and choosing Rasterize.
