Two-line header

Recommended Posts

The Artistic Text Tool in Publisher is great for making fitted headlines in a magazine. However, if a make a two-line headline (without a return), the Table of contents turns it into two entries, even if I ask it to Remove line breaks. I can insert a line break, and ask the TOC to remove line breaks, but this seems to defeat the purpose.

Is this a bug?

Are you using two separate Art Text frames to make the two 'lines'? If yes then that is the source of the two entries, two frames = two paragraphs.

Are you wanting to have two lines in the ToC (but only the one entry) as well as on the Page? You'll have to manually insert the line break in the ToC.

Hmm... I probably had a return between the two lines — it is not even possible to wrap an artistic text onto two lines like a regular text frame, right? So the hidden knowledge seems to be that one has to insert a line break instead of a return. Unexpected (I never use line breaks), but mystery solved, thanks!

Right, that trips up a lot of people, well, me.

Okay, so this changes to a feature request... Could Remove line breaks in the TOC also remove returns (LR + CR)? Maybe it's just a Mac thing?

No, it's not a Mac thing. If there is a paragraph break (as you are describing) you have two paragraphs, and thus (as far as a TOC is concerned) two headings.
