spinhead
When attempting to draw a rectangle the same size as the canvas, over a photograph the same size as the canvas, I have to deselect the photograph (often the only layer, requiring a continual guessing game about which keystrokes or mouse clicks will do the job) or the cursor grabs the resize handle and instead of dragging out a rectangle, resizes the photograph. Yes, I could also lock the background, which is what I do when I'm going to be doing this a lot. Is there an easier way to slap a rectangle over a photo (for example) without having a step between? A magical key/mouse combo?
walt.farrell
Click outside the canvas. Or, I think, press Esc. No firm data on when it works or doesn't, so I'll stick with option 1.

No firm data on when it works or doesn't It should always work when one or more objects is/are selected, as far as I know. If you’re at a text cursor within a text frame, pressing it once will take you out of text entry mode but leave the frame selected, so in that particular scenario you have to press it a second time. Could be what I was experiencing. Alfred
