Nell Tull
Just updated from 1.9.0 to 1.9.1 because someone told me it fixes the bug where text is combined and seporated between different text boxes. When i go to open my project now, i get the error message " the file type is not supported". its a normal afpub file. GarryP
Welcome to the forums @Nell Tull Have you tried searching in the forums for “file type not supported” (without the quotes)? Have you already tried any fixes? Would you be able to upload a file so we can test it? The file will be available to all forum members, essentially public, so it’s entirely your choice if you do not want that. Also, you will need to tell us which operating system you are using. Nell Tull
I have tried searching the forums. The only similar answer i could find said the file was corrupted. I dont think my file is not corrupted. I have not tried any fixes. I am using Windows 10 version 2004. The only thing I have gotten to work is to take the exported pdf version of the same file. This causes the Text boxes to all combine and divide. This issue with Text Boxes combining and dividing was an issue for we when opening anything before the update. Attached below is the version of the file that I can not get to open. Martolea_Tuesday's_Demon_1.0.2.afpub
GarryP
I’ve just tried to open your document and, missing fonts excepted, it opens in Publisher 1.9.1.979 on Windows 10 (20H2) just fine for me. I downloaded the file, opened Publisher and then used “File → Open” to open the document. The thumbnail is also showing correctly (I assume, as I don’t know exactly how it should look) in File Explorer. I’m not sure what to suggest next. If other people can open the file then that would suggest that the problem is probably with your computer but what that problem could be is something I don’t know. Are you absolutely sure that you are trying to open the AFPUB document and not something else which has a similar name or a different suffix? Ray S.
I can confirm everything GarryP has written, the file open in publisher 1.9.1 on Win10 Home (20H2), the fonts (except Arial) are missing. I would say the file is NOT the problem. Nell Tull
Nell Tull
The file contains many custom fonts. My mistake, that is the wrong version of the file. 1.0.2 open fine for me as well, as it was created from a backup of a pdf file. 1.0.1 file will not open for me and is linked below. sorry for the confusion, and thanks for your assistance and patience. Staff Patrick Connor Posted March 7, 2021 Staff Share Posted March 7, 2021 On 3/3/2021 at 7:15 PM, Nell Tull said: the file type is not supported Unfortunately this is the error message you get for a zero byte file. I think it should be more specific in this case, as it is not helpful to understand what has happened. If the zero byte file you have attached is your actual file as found on your drive, then I would suggest you have to use a backup or the PDF recovered version. kenmcd and Nell Tull 1 1 Quote Patrick Connor Serif Europe Ltd Latest V2 releases on each platform Help make our apps better by joining our beta program! Nell Tull
Okay, this resolves my issue. my file size says zero as well. strange though, as it was fine before i updated affinity. I already recreated my file properly from the pdf some time ago, i just wasn't sure what had happened. Thank You all for your help!

OzFrog
I had a similar problem. I have solved it but am reporting it here because it definitely appears to be a bug. I opened an afpub file, edited it, printed to PDF, then tried to save it. Message: Failed to save document. Save failed because the file could not be created. Do you wish to save the document to a new file? Clicked Save As, entered new file name. Message: Failed to save document. Save failed because the file could not be written to. It actually created the file with 0 bytes. Obviously I was worried the file might have been corrupted and not open again. However I closed the file without saving, and closed Affinity Publisher too. Fortunately I was still able to open my file again, edit it and save it.
Pšenda
Again, it would be interesting to know if it is a Local or External drive.
